WEEKLY SUMMARY:

On Monday, 8 June 2015, there were six notable updates. Firstly, the Attorney General's office was urged to focus its efforts on gathering of evidence to avoid court acquital due to lack of evidence. Such circumstance had occurred in previous trials, including the case involving Mayor of Indramayu, Irianto MS Syafiuddin.

In the Constitutional Court, KPK investigator Novel Baswedan expressed his worries that the four witnesses proposed by the Police Force had begun to touch on case materials. There were concerns that such testimonies would obscure the substance of his pre-trial appeal.

KPK themselves had expressed their willingness to open recordings of criminalization and intimidation should the Constitutional Court requested them. The existence of these recordings was brought forward after investigator Novel Baswedan testify in court about the effort to impair the anti-graft body during the pre-trial court on Friday (5/6/2015).

But other news mentioned that KPK denied the existence of any recordings of criminalization, intimidation and threats on KPK.

Meanwhile, registration of KPK candidate chairpersons will open until 24 June 2015. The selection panel will continue to encourage good candidates to enter themselves in the selection.

In regards to the UPS corruption case, new suspects and flow of fund exposed during the investigation had made the case even more transparent. Alex Usman, Head of Infrastructures in the West Jakarta Education Agency, was recently named as suspect. Allegedly, the bribery in this case had flown to the accounts of secretary to the Hanura Party Faction in DPR Fahmi Zulfikar, Chair of Jakarta DPRD (2009-2014) Ferrial Sofyan, parliamentarian M. Firmansyah from the Democratic Party and coordinator of Commission E from PPP Abraham Lunggana.

Four more important anti-corruption updates took place on Tuesday, 9 June 2015. KPK Selection Panel (Pansel) invited the involvement of Police Force, Attorney General's office and State Intelligence Agency to assist in scrutinizing the track records of KPK chairperson candidates.

In the Supreme Court, former Chairman of the Democratic Party, Anas Urbaningrum, was sentenced to 14 years in prison and a fine of five billion rupiahs or equal to a further 1 year and 4 months imprisonment. The court also revoked Anas' political right to occupy pubic office.

Former Chair of the Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD, regarded the naming of former minister of State-Owned Companies Dahlan Iskan as a lesson for public officials. He said that public officials are prone to be named as suspects in corruption cases although they have no intention to corrupt.

Former Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani was questiond by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim). Sri Mulyani explained afterwards that the decision to rescue PT TPPI (PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama) by selling state-owned condensate was taken in a meeting led by Jusuf Kalla.

And in Jakarta Selatan District Court, solitary judge Zuhairi ruled to reject all argument in the pre-trial appeal by KPK investigator Novel Baswedan against the Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

On Wednesday, 10 June 2015, former President Director of Pertamina, Karen Agustiawan was questioned for four hours by Bareskrim as part of an investigation into a paddy field joint project between state-owned enterprises such as Pertamina, PGN, Pelindo, Hutama Karya, Askes, and BRI. The Corporate Social Responsibility budget was allegedly used to fund a fictitious project.

On Thursday, 11 June 2015, Dahlan Iskan appointed former minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra as his lawyer.

On Friday, 12 June 2015, Attorney General's office plan to takeover the case of Dahlan Iskan since he was allegedly involved in three cases. In one case he was named as suspect and in the other two he was involved as a witness.

Attorney General's office also named Brahmantory, former Deputy Assistant of Sports Infrastructure Development at the Youth and Sports Ministry, and Rino Lade, Director at PT Artha Putra Arjuna / former Director of PT Suramadu Angkasa Indonesia, as suspects in an alleged corruption of a 2011 sports infrastructures procurement at the National Center of Education, Training and School of Sports (P3SON).
